Mr. Kasirye and his family were in the process of moving into their new one-storey home. In addition to the fact that the nearest Umeme pole was about 200 meters away, he was frustrated with the unreliable grid power and wanted to power his entire house with a dependable solar energy system.
After a proper site inspection and a conversation with the client, we installed the system at his residence in Nanziga, Nsangi-Wakiso district. The off-grid solar system comprises a 2.2kWp monocrystalline solar panel array by Felicity, a durable 10kWh Felicity gel maintenance-free battery bank, a 5kVA Felicity hybrid inverter and a remote monitoring system, Fsolar by Felicity.
In his house this is an off-grid system is powers everything in the house including a microwave, blender, ironing, refrigerator, TVs, flat irons, washing machines, lighting and more.
The system boasts safety features including restarting when over-temperature is detected, restarting when the system is overloaded and a generator can be connected to act as a backup for the solar power in case it is to ever fail on a bad day.
What’s even better is that the system does not stop collecting power from the sun when the batteries are fully charged; instead, the excess power is passed over to the appliances to minimise the use of already stored power in the batteries.
The system is designed to generate up to 12 kWh (12 energy units) per day and over 300 kWh per month; that’s more than UGX 250,000 in Yaka savings while enjoying an unlimited power supply.
