Solar System Upgrade & Optimisation for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Office, Kampala – Kweli Energy
Published by Kweli Energy admin on
Kweli Energy completed a solar system upgrade and optimisation project for the International Rescue Committee (IRC) office in Kampala, Uganda.
The project involved redesigning and upgrading an existing off-grid backup system into a stable 12.5 kWp hybrid solar power configuration capable of supporting full office operations with reduced grid and generator dependence.
The Challenge: Poor System Performance and Heavy Generator Use
The office was operating in a weak-grid environment with frequent interruptions. The existing solar and battery system had been poorly configured and could not provide reliable power during working hours.
As a result:
- Generator runtime was high
- Fuel costs were rising
- Office operations were exposed to instability
- Sensitive IT equipment was at risk
The system required technical redesign rather than simple replacement.
The Kweli Solution: Hybrid Solar Upgrade and Reconfiguration
Kweli Energy assessed the existing installation, redesigned the system architecture and upgraded the configuration to a 12.5 kWp hybrid solar power system integrated with 40 kWh of lithium battery storage and a 10 kVA smart hybrid inverter.
The upgraded system now powers the office primarily from solar and stored energy from 8:00 am to midnight, with automatic switching to grid or generator only when required.
System configuration after upgrade:
- 12.5 kWp solar PV array
- 40 kWh lithium battery storage
- 10 kVA LV smart hybrid inverter
- Wi-Fi remote monitoring
The focus was power stability first, followed by reduced generator dependence and lower operating costs.
What the System Powers
The optimised system supports:
- Air conditioning systems
- IT infrastructure and servers
- Lighting
- Refrigeration
- Printers and networking equipment
- Kitchen and staff facilities
Measured Results After Optimisation
Following the upgrade:
- Monthly grid electricity use reduced by approximately 70%
- Generator running hours reduced by approximately 95%
- Power interruption impact reduced by approximately 99%
- Around 10 MWh of solar energy generated annually
The office now operates with stable power during working hours and significantly lower fuel reliance.
Solar System Upgrade & Optimisation Services in Uganda
Kweli Energy not only installs new hybrid solar systems — we also redesign, upgrade and optimise existing solar and battery installations that are underperforming.
For offices, NGOs and commercial facilities in Kampala and across Uganda, we assess load behaviour, system configuration and power quality before recommending technical upgrades.
If your current solar system is not delivering the stability or savings expected, our team can evaluate and optimise it for better performance.
