16 kVA Hybrid Power Stabilisation System Installed at Uganda Catholic TV, Kampala | Kweli Energy
Published by Kweli Energy admin on
Kweli Energy completed the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a 16 kVA smart hybrid power stabilisation system at Uganda Catholic TV (UCTV) in Nsambya, Kampala.
The system was installed to stabilise power for live television broadcast operations and reduce reliance on generator backup.
The Challenge: Broadcast Interruptions and Generator Dependence
UCTV was experiencing frequent power interruptions that disrupted live broadcasts and placed sensitive studio and transmission equipment at risk.
The existing setup relied heavily on a diesel generator and UPS units. Generator operation was costly, and repeated UPS failures created instability for studio lighting, servers and production systems.
For a live television station, even brief interruptions are unacceptable.
The station required a system that could:
- Maintain uninterrupted broadcast operations
- Protect sensitive equipment
- Reduce generator runtime
- Lower overall energy costs
The Kweli Solution: 16 kVA Hybrid Power Stabilisation System
Kweli Energy designed and installed a 16 kVA smart hybrid power stabilisation system integrated with 3.7 kWp of solar PV and 10 kWh of lithium battery storage.
The system supplies the studio and broadcast infrastructure primarily from solar and stored energy, with automatic switching between power sources without interrupting live transmission.
System configuration:
- 3.7 kWp solar PV array
- 10 kWh lithium battery storage
- 16 kVA LV smart hybrid inverter
- Wi-Fi remote monitoring
The system was configured to prioritise broadcast loads and stabilise voltage across critical equipment.
What the System Powers
The hybrid system supports:
- TV broadcast equipment
- Studio lighting
- Servers and IT infrastructure
- Air conditioning systems
Measured Results
Following commissioning:
- Power interruption impact reduced by approximately 99%
- Generator running hours reduced by approximately 99%
- Grid electricity consumption reduced by approximately 15%
- Around 4 MWh of solar energy generated annually
The result is stable broadcast operations with significantly reduced diesel dependence and improved power reliability.
